Warner Bros. Tease Secret to DC's Bright Future After The Batman Release
After the successful opening weekend for DC’s newest hit movie The Batman, Warner Bros. executives were quick to comment on how they will be handling the making of future DC Comics movies. Unlike Marvel Studios’ vastly deep intertwining cinematic universe, Warner Bros. approach appears to be slightly different with Chairman Motion Picture Boss of Warner Bros. Pictures Toby Emmerich having this to say when speaking to Deadline:
“The secret of the movie business is quality. It’s the best business strategy for both theatrical motion pictures and superhero movies. The movies don’t have to all have the same tone, or interlock with other DC movies, or have an Easter egg that sets up another film. Quality is the most important factor for a studio, and the biggest thing you can do to influence quality is the filmmaker that you hire.”
Though Warner Bros’ DCEU is still extremely popular and has a highly anticipated future, it appears that they will be centred around the director’s vision with story first, instead of where their movies might be heading, and which cameo will be next. This isn’t to say the DCEU/DC projects won’t be linked together as we have rumoured/confirmed cameos of plenty of upcoming DCEU and DC projects such as Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Batman within The Flash; Michael Keaton’s Batman in Batgirl; and rumours like Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman appearing in The Flash and Shazam Fury of the Gods. It’s just to reiterate the fact that DC projects will be more director driven instead of following a strict formula in which all movies have to match.

Warner Bros. seem to be using the success of Todd Phillips’ Joker movie and the newest addition to their movie line The Batman, to prioritise storytelling over fan-service moving forward. Director of The Batman Matt Reeves is already confirmed to be developing his own Batman universe with upcoming DC projects including The Batman Sequel, a Penguin HBO Max series, a rumoured Zoë Kravitz Catwoman series and an upcoming Arkham Asylum-centred project, all set to tie-in together to build this new Batman movie world being developed by Reeves and Co.
A Bright Future For DC Movies
It is obvious that Warner Bros. have started to notice an increase in success within director-driven stories after the huge popularity of recent releases such as Birds of Prey, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, and Matt Reeves’ The Batman, so to make this statement official is extremely encouraging for the future of DC movies meaning fans can not only still expect awesome cameos and easter eggs within DC films, but ultimately look forward to fantastic storytelling within the superhero genre moving forward.
