Ben Affleck is Officially DONE as Batman

The current DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is currently in the process of reinvention as it is trying to figure out exactly what type of cinematic universe it wants to be arising in a post-Justice League universe. After the 2017 theatrical cut of the Justice League was deemed as a failure, Warner Bros. shifted their focus to developing more standalone movies instead of forcing big team-up movies with the likes of Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984 both being met with positive reviews and success.

With 2022 full of standalone movies set within the DCEU including Black Adam, The Flash and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, we will be receiving much more clarity on which direction the DCEU is heading.

The key to unlocking the new DCEU status-quo seems to be The Flash, releasing on November 4th of this year, which will be involving Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen/The Flash as the lead role of the long-awaited solo movie for the Scarlet Speedster.

The Flash won’t be the only hero appearing in the forthcoming DCEU movie however, as the movie will also be featuring the introduction of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl and Michael Keaton’s Batman, alongside the final appearance of Ben Affleck’s Batman.

Yes, Ben Affleck has confirmed that this will indeed be his last appearance as the Dark Knight, as per a recent interview with Herald Sun (https://www.heraldsun.com.au). In the interview, Affleck addressed his upcoming role within The Flash movie and commented on how that and his reshoots for Zack Snyder’s Justice League “put a really nice finish on my experience with the character”.

The good news from his recent statements is that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time closing out his iteration as Batman and seems more than satisfied with his performance in The Flash and even considers this his best Batman performance, commenting:

“I have never said this – this is hot off the presses – but maybe my favourite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done, were in the Flash movie… I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting – different, but not in the way that is incongruent with the character.”

Although Affleck’s time as the Caped Crusader has come to an end, it is safe to say he has left a lasting legacy on the Batman character and won over the heart of many DC fans.

The Flash hits theatres on November 4, 2022 and you can watch the official teaser for the film here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FTS9T5THuc&t=1s
